CSI is Buying a Building!
(well, we're trying to!)
The Centre for Social Innovation (CSI) is exploring the purchase of a new building at 720 Bathurst Street, in the Bloor and Bathurst area. The existing CSI isn’t going anywhere – this new building would be in addition to our space at 215 Spadina Avenue.
The (potential!) new space is made up of five floors and totals 36,000 square feet. The building is two blocks from the subway line, has plentiful light and a gorgeous brick/beam interior, and is in close proximity to an array of restaurants and services.
Our Vision
Our vision is a dynamic space that’s bursting at the seams with creative and entrepreneurial energy. The first floor will be a community gathering place, with event spaces and plenty of unstructured social space to hang out and connect. The second floor will be a vibrant mix of desks and hot desks, hosting an incredible diversity of members in a beautiful and open collaborative environment. Floors three through five will be a mix of offices, desks, and themed incubation spaces focussed on improving our city and bringing new projects to life.
We Need Your Help!
Buying a new building is a big step! And to make it happen, we need to raise $1.5 million. The good news is that we’re half-way there. For the balance, we can offer a solid financial and social return for investors capable of contributions of $100,000 or more. I see you guys are promoting another white saviour and genius Hank Greenberg?
Are there any Black visonaries and city builders in YOUR world?. Are all the social enterprise geniuses and GREAT visionaries and city builders white? . You and your ilk is always touting cultural diversity as one of Toronto's strenght, however I dont see you guys practicing diversity by bringing and promoting Black visionaries and city builders from around the world?. You phoney baloneys keeping talking about social enterprise and all the progressive self serving crap your ALL white crew at CSI is doing. However I dont see you guys doing any thing to promote and empower black people who need social enterprise and other progressive initiatives way more than people who look like you. If you cant find Black Visionaries and Great City Builders why dont you ask Black people if they can find some for you? Do white people have a monopoly when it comes to City Building and Great Ideas in this world?
Who knows more about Urban Renewal than African-Americans and Black people? They actually live in urban areas as opposed to the white geniuses and gurus you guys keep digging up and promoting. Hell if you looked hard enough I am sure you would find some Black visionaries in the Great White North/GTA with brilliant ideas that would put you and your white friends to shame. But you guys are not interested in promoting black genius. You see the world thru white eyes. You are not in the business of promoting black genius and creativity.
I know I know you and your crew at CSI dont know any black visionaries....or maybe they dont fit your profile of what a visionary looks like.
GTA will be majority visible minority in 30 years, what are guys going to do? bring in whites from South Africa to advise us on how to build a creative city?
You guys are becoming a real joke over at CSI. Hell is there any people or race on earth MORE creative and innovative than black people? Hell we survived 400 years of slavery you dont get any more creative and innovative than that old gurl....Its obvious that what you guys are looking for is WHITE creativity, its like White Rock Music/ Bands I guess..event if its crap and just white noise, it gets the air play and big write up and promotion. You guys would rather accept and promote white mediocrity than black genius. Nothing ever changes, its the same old crap... May God save us from you so-called white Liberals. You guys are like that two- face phoney David Miller...you just love saving black folks, but you wont do $hit to help us SAVE our selves. You might give us a fish, but NEVER a fishing rod. You guys love it when black folks come begging Massa for a crumb, thats the position you guys like to see us in forever.
Just look at the white NGO's in Haiti and you will see what I mean if you are confused!!.. You guys are more interested in building little white fiefdoms to glorify your selves and make money than you are in helping those who REALLY need to be lifted up!

Wow. Another crass, insulting, uninformed and unproductive contribution from Frederick Douglas. You are right - there is no room for people like you in our vision. We're interested in working with people - all people - who are focussed on solutions.
Since these rants seem to be a favourite pasttime, this is a public head's up that future rants will be deleted. Originally, we kept the posts up to show transparency. At this stage, I can't in good conscious let this vile material remain on our site.
We want to do the same
We're in a cool building bayside downtown Barrie - 3 floors (10K s/f) What is the "solid financial and social return for investors" look like? Is it longterm return on the building - do they take a cut of rent, do tell? We'd like to make a similar announcement and get the buzz going for the entire building. As of now we're in 2300 s/f on just the 2nd floor Thanks!!
