CSI in the News!

We've been waiting a long time for a bit of media attention and we're thrilled that The Toronto Star published a fantastic article about CSI in today's paper. Special thanks to Carol Goar for her keen interest and enthusiastic reporting of our work.

We are incredibly excited about 2008. Now that our permanent space is almost full we'll be focusing on our Hot Desk (temporary) workspace options. But, more improtantly, we'll be working with an amazing array of colleagues and partners to begin developing a supportive ecosystem for social enterprise and social entrepreneurship in Toronto and across the country.

Changing the world from home, one snack at a time!

Great article Eli. Though, I took exception to the lead-in paragraphs:

Working at home, economical and convenient as it may be, is not an ideal way to change the world. There's no one to answer the phone or go to the door when you're busy. There's no place to hold meetings. You probably don't have a photocopier, a fax machine or a good colour printer. Then there's the isolation. You're on your own when your computer crashes, you need to test an idea on someone or you hit a mental roadblock.

I think those assumptions are a bit off-base! ;-) I would counter with:

1, Who needs to answer the door!?!?

2. Who uses a fax machine anymore? (And I do have a colour, full-duplex, laser printer at home.)

3. The isolation is WHY I work at home three days a week! Sometimes, quiet space is just what's necessary to get the work done.

And then, of course, there are the "fridge benefits" of working at home, like lower impact on the environment, less stress, and access to health home-made snacks.

Who says that you can't change the world from your home office? Not me!

Phillip.
