Monforte is crowd sourcing social finance for sheep cheese
Two weeks ago while I was attending a local gardening workshop @ The Stop greenhouse, nestled inside the grand Wychwood Barns, I discovered what I think may be the best local farmers market in the city... and there I bought a half wheel of local Ontario sheep cheese shares from Monforte Dairy for $500.
Okay okay... I know... just how politically correct could I get... there I was supporting my local economy, learning how to be empowered to take control of my food security while enjoying a walk through one of Toronto's most successful social enterprises - Artscape.
Today in the mail I received $150 in Monforte vouchers in the mail and can’t wait to go shopping at the market again this Saturday to pick out my cheese and to inevitably drop more money at the market.
And then I get the announcement from Monforte that they have recruited over 774 investors and raised over $350,000 in CSA subscriptions. I couldn’t help but reflect at the market transformation in action.
I spend many hours talking about social enterprise, social finance and market transformation… sometimes it feels hollow, but it is a great day when you can spend your morning immersed in the solutions economy. The work-arounds are amazing, the challenges immense but ultimately the cheese is mind-blowingly delicious.
Monforte is building their own dairy and trying to raise $500,000 by April 25th. It is the citizens of Toronto that will make this happen… the cheese eaters and local food supporters that will bring this vision to life. You can be a part of it at http://www.monfortedairy.com/monforte-subscription-offering.html
Monforte is crowd sourcing social finance – this means that the onus is on us – the cheese eaters of the world to unite and create a vibrant local economy.

Who knew cheese could be so inspirational
Hi Tonya,
Wow...talk about an organization doing cool stuff! I just checked out their site and it's obvious that they love what they're doing, and that they care about doing it "right". And it's really great that people are noticing and supporting it!
I hope your Amsterdam trip went well!
