Open Source & social innovation in the Globe Today
Hat's off to Ivor Torsell's article in the Globe and Mail today about how open source thinking and social innovation are changing our city. Mark Surman of Mozilla Foundation, Mark Kuznicki a tenant and a force behind ChangeCamp at MaRS, the city and open data and little old CSI get great coverage. The article calls out an exciting trend in open government....
For us here at CSI, we are most fascinated by how civil society and government can re-invent their relationship and move from what has been an entitlement-based, us versus them relationship to one of working together to build a better city and society.

Open approaches are a social innovation in themselves, but they are also a strategy to get at other innovations... The next year promises to be most fascinating in how we can get the city to open up their data and even more fascinating to look at what we as civil society can do about it...
Jason Mogus at Communicopia blogs a little further on the topic and has started a conversation about Van ChangeCamp as a possible upcoming event....
Just a quick note to clarify that the article gave CSI credit for helping to stage ChangeCamp and while I feel deeply connected to the movement and we have been up to things surrounding this work and ready to support work that connects open source and social innovation, CSI was not directly involved with putting the event on... We participated actively but credit needs to go to the organizing team, Remarkk, MaRS and the many other sponsors and volunteers for the day.
