Social Enterprise Think Pieces from the UK

The Office of the Third Sector in the UK has just released a number of Think Pieces, which were published on "Social Enterprise Day" 2007. Ahem. "Social Enterprise Day". Yep - got a long way to go on this side of the pond...

I haven't yet read them but the piece titled "How can innovation in social enterprise be understood, encouraged and enabled" looks particularly interesting.

Writers and Thinkers

Just a quick note to mention that the third volume of the uTOpia series is about to be released with the title GreenTOpia: Toward a Sustainable Toronto. We are especially excited about this publication because it includes contributions from a few of our very own writers and thinkers: John Degen (Professional Writers Association), Dale Duncan (Spacing Media), Darren O’Donnell (Mammalian Diving Reflex), and Margie Zeidler and Erin MacKeen (Urbanspace).

It just goes to show that we are bursting with talent :-) Congratulations to our contributors!!

Communities, Bicycles and Collaboration

We reported in our last Innovators Update (sign up on our homepage!) that CSI and Urbanspace have recently received an award from the City of Toronto for "Best Large Business" at the 2007 Bicycle Friendly Business Awards. This was great recognition of Urbanspace's amazing bike-friendly building (outdoor and indoor parking, shower facilities) and the recent launch of CSI's Community BikeShare Program.

Promoting Social Entrepreneurship: A Conversation with Greg Dees

Today we hosted an intimate session with Professor Greg Dees, founding faculty director of the Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship and an adjunct professor at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. Greg is the foremost academic on topics of social enterprise and social entrepreneurship, and was visiting Toronto to take part in Rotman’s Corporate Citizenship Speaker Series.

Introducing CSI Buzz!

There is simply too much going on here at CSI to leave up a static website while we await the launch of our new site later in the fall. So we’ve created CSI Buzz as a way to open a window into the Centre! We’ll use this blog to share a bit about what we’re up to, who we’re meeting, and the new ideas we’re helping to grow. Check in every week and we promise a handful of new postings. And we really promise to wow you with our new site later this year!
