As a variety of elections - municipal, provincial, and federal - start to loom once more, we begin to think about the democratic processes in place to help us choose our leaders and thus our collective future. The main principle behind democracy is based on the premise that it is only a fair process if everyone has the equal right to voice themselves and then the majority will decide which path we go down on. It is a collective process and is thought to be the process of "the people". But what if "the people" are no longer participating in the process?

I've been working at CSI for a little over 2 years and I feel that right now is one of the most exciting and interesting times that I have ever experienced in this organization. We're opening a new building as of October 1^st and as a result, we're upgrading every system in our organization to help accommodate the needs of tenants as they more than double, bringing on new staff, and launching a pilot internship program that will be core to ensuring that the quality and community of CSI continues as the tenancy increases at an incredible rate.

Have you ever wanted to become a part of the CSI team? Well here is your chance! CSI is looking for their next wonderful team of volunteers to come on board from August - November (for one day a week). If you are interested, please read the volunteer posting attached below and submit your resume and volunteer form (also attached below) to Yumi Hotta, Community Animator at yumi@socialinnovation.ca. Only candidates selected for interviews will be contacted. Deadline is: Wednesday, July 21st at 5pm.

Last month was Discover CSI month and we held a number of amazing workshops profiling our tenants at CSI. One of them was co-presented by two of our tenants, Behrouz Hariri and Blair Francey, and titled "How to Work with Graphic Design(ers)". It aimed to bring new freelance graphic designers and clients together (possibly for the first time) so that they could better understand each other's needs, objectives, and expectations to avoid the kind of frustration and miscommunication that even I have seen happen (on both sides).
