Trends in Social Innovation

This Friday October 16, over lunch, I will be launching the first in our Sandbox Series - Trends in Social Innovation. Here at CSI, we have been engaging, watching, dialoguing, catalyzing and pushing this concept of social innovation... but what does it look like? what do we really know about social innovation - the new buzz word and how can we get more of it?

Most importantly, what does it mean for your work? I hope that you can join us to be a part of the conversation as we explore, probe and experiment with new ideas that are changing the world.

Green Students Fundraising

Green Students Fundraising is a company bringing a fresh idea to the fundraising industry.  It provides an opportunity for schools to raise money while helping to fight climate change by promoting energy conservation in their communities. The concept is simple: rather than sell chocolate bars, participants sell compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) and other environmentally friendly products.  By offering CFLs, customers purchase a product that they actually need, schools raise money, students learn how easy it can be to help fight global warming, and of course, the environment benefits.

Green Enterprise Toronto

Green Enterprise Toronto is a network of local, independent enterprises and customers in the Toronto region that are committed to:

  • a strong community
  • a healthy environment
  • providing meaningful employment
  • buying local first

We are part of an international alliance of thousands of like-minded people who are building local living economies - one enterprise at a time.

Green Students Fundraising Gets Approved with the Toronto District School Board

Social innovation is so often found in the small changes - the small shifts that can result in massive breakthroughs. So, is this what social innovation looks like...???

Today Cory Berman, President of Green Student Fundraising - www.greenstudents.ca, popped into my office to tell me that they had just been approved to sell their CFL's and other green products as fundraisers in Toronto's schools. Yeah! So, what does this mean?
