CSI in Action! The power of our community!
A few weeks back a dear friend of mine suggested that young Rachel Parent could use a little support preparing to ‘debate’ Kevin O’Leary on the topic of Genetically Modified Foods - GMO foods. Would CSI help?
Wow! A 14 year old girl taking on the likes of O’Leary would be a serious challenge. But what an incredible opportunity to both educate the world about the complex issues surrounding GMO’s and to engage the collaborative metal of CSI’s community.
We put out a message to the CSI community and invited folks to come together. A small team formed of political wonks, communications professionals and GMO experts. Joining forces with Rachel, her amazing parents and existing team of experts and supporters, the whole crew came together to work on messaging and to coach and support Rachel leading up to the show. Hours of preparation, heated discussion and strategy went into this work.
Well, here are the results of the incredible Rachel Parent as she, with poise, clarity and grace, gets Kevin O’Leary to admit that labeling of GMO’s is inevitable and good.
What an incredible job Rachel did. What a vital voice for the issues that will impact future generations. What an amazing story of collaboration.
The issues that Rachel raises through her media work and her website are vital to our future. A petition to label GMO’s and more information on GMO’s and why we need to pay attention to what the corporations are feeding us. Check out the Canadian Biotechnology Action Network as well.
While there is a lot to learn about GMO’s – an issue which is dear to my heart as a mother and human – I was delighted to see the talent and passion of the next generation taking on the issues of our time. Well done Rachel and incredible gratitude to the many CSI members who stepped up to support the change that we want to see in the world. Once again amazed at the power of this amazing community.
