MineOwn Media
I am a creative professional who lives and works in Toronto. Over the last five years I have worked in music and media in both the corporate and the non-profit media industries – I am fascinated by media. My previous experiences in community arts include working as the Administrator for Small World Music Society as well as the Program Manager for Art Starts' One World Glendower program. My previous corporate experience involves working with the programming departments of the former Alliance Atlantis Broadcasting with National Geographic, Food Network, HGTV, Life (now Slice) and Fine Living (all Canadian networks). I also lead my own band named ‘Sing Bandana Singh,' and I'm 50% of the new band 'LXRY.' The music is a mix of early 90′s alt/rock with world music influence. Social enterprises and entrepreneurship are areas of great interest which I'd love to explore. This interest has led to the creation of MineOwn Media, a culture label that develops artists who are pushing social, cultural and political boundaries.
Why I do what I do:
Self-expression is a critical component for health and well being. Art and art based creative activities allow us to see and show ourselves. As individuals we need to feel strong, healthy and safe in order to contribute to our greater communities. Art is a very powerful and meaningful tool that allows for individuals to represent themselves while simultaneously facilitating these individuals to find consensus and build a sense of community.
