I'm the founder of Bleeding Heart Communications, through which I provide non-profit organizations with a comprehensive range of written communications products and services--all geared towards making your communications clear, elegant and accessible for the people who need to 'get' what you do.

Why I do what I do:

I love to write, I love to communicate and I feel strongly that plain language and beautiful, clear writing are crucial to advancing social justice and improving 'reality' literacy--making sure that everyone, from every walk of life, can understand basic science, be healthy, know their rights, follow important issues and work for change where it's needed. I also hate being bound into a single way of working or a single issue area--instead, I work closely with clients working to improve women's rights in North Bay and the conditions in which jeans are made in Mexico. I work on AIDS prevention in Zimbabwe, refugee rights in Toronto, and biological diversity in British Columbia. By helping organizations working in areas as diverse as climate change, community economic development and mental health to improve the way they communicate, I'm able to bring the inspiration and strategy I get from one client to the work I do with others. It's brilliant fun, and I believe that it is important work as well.
