Tara Zupancic

The Centre for Environmental Health Equity

Tara has been engaged in environmental health research, advocacy and policy development in Canada for over 10 years with an emphasis on vulnerable populations and maternal and child health. She is passionate about the untold stories of those most affected by poor environments and how to bring them to the fore in an effort to expand understanding about why unfair environmental health conditions exist and what collective means are available to address them. Tara’s work at the Centre incorporates her strong foundations in qualitative research, policy analysis, communications and project management in support of knowledge translation, policy development and community advocacy - she is constantly questioning what information needs to be accessed and what relationships need to be developed in order to move hearts, minds and systems to creatively respond to inequitable environmental health conditions. Tara holds an MPH from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto and holds a Specialist degree in Environmental Studies and International Development from the University of Toronto. In 2007, she co-authored a systematic review of Canadian environmental equity research, which helped to foster the development of the Canadian Network for Environment Health and Social Equity (CNEHSE), and the eventual launch of the Centre for Environmental Health Equity. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE) for over 7 years as a key community outreach and media representative on children's environmental health.
