February is Discover CSI Month at the Centre for Social Innovation!

We've got lots of amazing stuff happening all month, including free workshops, free meeting room space, our first ever Open House, and even CSI Talent Night! Discover CSI Month is open to anyone and everyone, so come join us and meet our amazing community!

FREE WORKSHOPS

We've got free workshops happening all month, on a wide variety of topics of interest to social innovators, worldchangers, nonprofits/charities, and anyone with an interest in making the world a better place.

All workshops take place in the Alterna or Innovation Lab boardrooms on the 4th floor, unless otherwise noted. n.b. you will need to register to attend the workshops - click on 'Event Information and Registration' to register for a workshop.

FREE MEETING ROOM SPACE

During Discover CSI Month, we're offering social mission organizations free meeting room space in our Innovation Lab. Eligible organizations can receive up to 4 free hours in this amazing space (a $180 value - additional hours are at the regular rate) The space holds between 20-30 people, and has blackboard paint around the room - great for innovative brainstorming! Additional resources include projectors, drawing boards, coffee and more!

To book your space, please email events@socialinnovation.ca with your request, with the subject line 'Free Meeting Room Space'. Please include your requested dates/times (including start and end times), possible alternate times, and a bit about your organization.

Space is available on a first-come-first-served basis, so book early to get your spot!

CSI OPEN HOUSE

Join us on Feb. 26 for our first ever Open House! We've got exciting things going on all day including tours, workshops, yoga, and our first Talent Night, where CSI innovators will showcase their hidden talents to the world!

Tours: Get to know the Centre for Social Innovation! We'll have hourlong tours of CSI starting at 10 am, 12 pm, and 3:30 pm.
Workshops/Speakers/Debates: From 11 am to 5 pm (see above)
Free Yoga: In the Innovation Lab or Alterna boardroom on the 4th floor. At 12 pm it's a vinyasa class with Courtney, and at 1 pm an invigorating Kundalini class with Mike.
CSI Marketplace: 5 pm - 6 pm in the 4th floor common area. CSI members showcase their worldchanging projects/organizations/ideas to the world (and the press) in a series of 90-second pitches. It's fast, it's inspiring, and it's entertaining!
Cocktail Hour: 6 pm to 7:30 pm, 4th floor common area. Enjoy a selection of yummy drinks on us!
Talent Night: 7:30 pm - ? Our tenants showcase their hidden talents to the world. Music, theatre, poetry, comedy... Who knows what this merry band of social innovators has to offer?

SALAD CLUB

Salad Club forms the backbone of our community. In a nutshell, it's a communal salad bar: bring two items, place them all on a table, and share in the bounty!

Join us on Feb. 16 and Feb. 23 from 12:30 to 2 pm in the 4th floor common area (our regular Salad Clubs are on Tuesdays and Thursdays - for these two, CSI will be providing extra edibles for new visitors). Come and share in great food, good conversation, and community!

Plus, on February 4, our executive director Tonya Surman will be hosting a special salad club to talk about CSI's potential purchase of a building at Bloor and Bathurst for the purposes of opening another CSI. Join us at 12:30 pm on the 4th floor - come one, come all!

RIFF 'N' REEL

Every Wednesday, we gather in the 4th floor common area at 12:30 pm to view inspiring movies, eat yummy organic popcorn, and engage in lively dialogue about the issues that matter.

Interested in hosting your own screening and dialogue? Apply to host a screening - we'll supply everything you need, from projectors to DVD players to popcorn and facilitators.

OTHER COOL STUFF

Feb. 24, 6pm: Screening the movie Super Amigos, a documentary featuring the exploits of 5 super-activists in Mexico City, fighting for social justice and human rights. click here for more information on the movie, or click here to RSVP (RSVPs required).

Feb. 25, 6 pm: Wireside Chat with Lawrence Lessig. Professor Lessig will deliver a talk on fair use and politics in online video from Harvard Law School in Cambridge, MA/USA - we are projection-screening a live hi-def stream of the talk, along with a panel of local speakers afterward. Feb. 10-12, all day: We'll be screening the 2010 TED Talks live from California, in our 4th floor common area. Grab a seat, be inspired, and connect with other inspiring people! See the 2010 schedule. n.b. the talks get under way Wed., Feb. 10 at 2 pm Toronto time.
