It has been said ‘if you want a good company, hire good people; if you want a great company, hire great people’. However hiring, of course, is just the tip of the iceberg. The employer-employee relationship is among the most important to the success of any organization. It is also among the most highly regulated. Employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, workplace safety and insurance – each has the potential to create risk, particularly for a new organization whose principals are more focussed on getting the business off the ground than avoiding workplace liability.
