Our world is changing and our city is in flux. The social, economic, cultural and environmental challenges we face are daunting and sometimes we feel exhausted – even defeated – by the fight.

But there is no denying that Toronto is bursting with civic energy. Every day, people across our city are taking action to make a positive impact in their neighbourhoods. Through their passion, dedication and sheer determination, citizens are making Toronto a vibrant, green and livable city.  And now, with so much at stake, it's time to catalyze even greater citizen energy - and generate more citizen solutions - to ensure that our city continues to be a green and healthy place to live.

This is why we are hosting a Community Innovation Summit. Co-creating a Greener Toronto: A Community Innovation Summit is an opportunity to inspire and support each other - to build our individual and collective capacity - as we continue to make a difference in our communities.

Toronto’s environmental community may face significant challenges in the coming years. But by linking together we can demonstrate that citizen action – as individuals, groups and communities – is what will determine the future of our city.

Our Goals

Building on three years of community engagement by EcoSpark’s Live Green Toronto Animators, the Community Innovation Summit will inspire, strengthen and support Toronto’s diverse and dynamic environmental community.

Our goal is to build enduring connections across Toronto's environmental sector: established environmental nonprofit organizations, passionate community groups and individual activists and green entrepreneurs.

The Agenda

9:00am – 9:30am: Registration

9:30am - 10:30am: Welcome
What is Citizen Action? Why is it important – now, more than ever – that we work together to make positive change in our city? Settle in and get your energy going for a dynamic day.

10:30am – 11:15am: Exchange Marketplace
Need it? Got it? Our sector is abundant with energy, skills, resources and connections. Let’s celebrate our strengths and make deeper connections among organizations and individuals so we can ensure environmental action in the years to come. Prepare to give a hand to emerging environmental projects and to get a hand with your own work.

11:15am – 11:30am: Break

11:30am – 1:00pm: Community Project Lab
Toronto is home to dozens of environmental projects rooted in local communities. We’re going to hear from  up to fifteen emerging initiatives – and roll up our sleeves to help them become even stronger.

1:00pm – 2:00pm: Lunch
After all - even citizen entrepreneurs need to eat, right?

2:00pm – 3:30pm: Capacity-Building Workshops (optional)
Community groups and activists interested in building their skills and capacity to effect environmental change can stick around for some workshop activities to strengthen your work and your impact. Final topics will be decided by you in advance!

This event will be lively and interactive. Attendees are expected to be active participants and to contribute their own energy, ideas and time to the day and beyond.
